Long Service in Education - April 2025
Today, we celebrated two extraordinary staff members who have dedicated their lives to the noble profession of teaching, Miss Fisher, Head of English, and Mrs Wallis, Assistant Head of English.
Miss Fisher has been with us for over 23 years and over 28 years with Hampshire County Council. Her invaluable contribution to the school and the English department over the years has been deeply appreciated. She has had a profound impact on the school, the department, and most importantly countless students’ lives. Her leadership in the English Department has been recognised through highly complimentary comments by Ofsted describing the team as a “flagship department”. Recent visits by county inspectors have attempted to determine what is the magic ingredient here for Calthorpe Park’s maintained excellent results. The department has grown from a mere five staff when she and Mrs Wallis started, to a burgeoning 14 and growing.
Her passion, resilience, and commitment to her role have been demonstrated by the quality of the school’s results year after year, along with student progress and outcomes.
Mrs Wallis has worked over 24 years at Calthorpe Park School and over 27 years with Hampshire County Council. Her incredible contribution to the school and the English Department over the years has been marked, incalculably on the students. Her role in building a highly successful English Department has grown over the years. Her intervention with students struggling with English has enabled countless young people to go and pursue their dreams by gaining the 4s, 5s and more, opening doors to their futures.
Mrs Wallis' loyalty, fortitude and devotion to her role have been demonstrated by the quality of the school’s results year after year, along with student progress and outcomes.
As the great Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." And change the world they have, one student at a time.
As we celebrate their incredible careers, let's remember the powerful words from Malala Yousafzai:
"One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world."
The transformative power of education and the profound impact that teachers can have on their students and the world.
We are so very proud of their achievements and the positive impact they have had on our students and staff.
