STEM Event - April 2019
On Monday, 29th April, Year 9 students participated in activities and challenges delivered by volunteers from UKCloud and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA). The interactive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) sessions enabled students to put their problem-solving skills to work, linking what they have been taught in the classroom with the wider world.
Feedback from the students included:
We were able to meet members from both UKCloud and the HIOWAA. From the day I was able to learn what virus can access you phone, as well as the importance of the Air Ambulance.’ (K07)
‘Overall the STEM event was educational, exciting and everyone got involved.’ (D09)
‘Our favourite thing about the STEM morning was learning about the helicopters and how much time it takes to get from Point A to Point B.’ (M11)
‘We did a variety of activities, such as a hacking related activity, DDOS attacks, mission planning and picking up patients after saving them. Overall we think the most enjoyable activity was the hacking because it contained many computational skills that will be very useful in the future.’ (S02)
‘We really enjoyed the day because it was useful in highlighting important themes. The hacking workshop was very interactive and the packaging a patient activity involved teamwork.’ (K03)
