Supporting wellbeing in these uncertain times
Rainbows have become the nation’s symbol of positivity in these strange and changing times, showing the importance of support, standing together, kindness and community at a time that is of significant challenge to so many of us. It’s an apt symbol, given the brightness, colour and inclusivity that the rainbow is synonymous with. Across the country, children’s drawings of rainbows adorn windows to lift spirits and brighten people’s day.
But it’s also important to note that we can’t have a rainbow without a little rain. For a rainbow to be formed, there needs to be water droplets in the air and the light has to shine through those droplets at just the right angle. A rainbow represents the serenity that follows the storm.
There may be times when we experience our own personal ‘rain’ over the coming weeks and each and every one of us may need some help through that. The first step is to talk to someone, to seek some support. We, at Calthorpe Park, are here throughout. Our Pastoral Leaders can be contacted via Edulink and, in due course, Tutors will be contacting their tutees to check how things are going. We will offer any support that we can.
There is also a wealth of resource and support available in the wider community, both physical and digital and now, more than ever, we must all look out for ourselves and for others. Creating a routine whilst learning at home, keeping fit in spite of the current restrictions on our mobility, using the internet and social media responsibly and addressing stress and potential anxiety early are crucial to maintaining our personal health and well-being.
