Oliver! - July 2022
Having the chance to stage our first show since 2019 has been the absolute highlight of our year. The Drama department thrives on creating productions, and it’s something we’ve all missed terribly. We were slightly dubious in our quest to launch ‘Oliver!’, we wondered whether the calibre of talent would be apparent after a long period of ‘no shows’, we worried about not living up to our pre-existing reputation but there really wasn’t any need for us to be worried… the cast surpassed all our expectations! The entire Company gelled together remarkably well, and our Principals were an excellent example to other cast members; they came to rehearsals well-prepared and ready to work hard. We created the show in ten weeks, this included rehearsing every lunchtime and four times a week after school and weekends. During this time their commitment, stamina and dedication to the show never faltered. A truly remarkable experience for us all to treasure. We cannot wait to stage our next production in 2023!
Miss Oram
After such a long period of time of not being able to do school shows, the Music Department was delighted to form a 18-piece band of staff and student musicians, to provide the musical accompaniment to the show, Oliver. Lionel Bart’s lengthy and detailed score is full of memorable songs, which we enjoyed rehearsing and playing over a number of weeks before they were ready to perform at our run of shows last week. Despite the enforced cessation of school performances in recent times, we enjoyed the most incredible resurgence of beautiful singing, amazing acting and sublime playing, culminating in a last night to remember. Everyone involved in Oliver gave their all and enjoyed it immensely.
