GCSE Results - August 2016
Another fantastic set of results!
Congratulations to all our students for whom the long wait for GCSE results is finally over. They arrived on Thursday morning (25th August) to collect their results with well-founded optimism followed by joyous smiles as well as tears of delight and ecstatic congratulatory hugs!
Our results demonstrate consistent, year-on-year excellence that is the hallmark of our school. 86% achieved 5 or more GCSEs at A*-C with 78% of students gaining 5 or more GCSE grades at C or above, including English and Maths; over a third of all exam grades awarded were A* or A. In the context of a widening gender gap nationally, we have reduced our gap to 0.3% on the 5A*-C including English and Maths measure.
There are some superb results in all areas of our very broad curriculum together with many notable individual achievements. So many of our students have scored outstanding personal triumphs and we are thrilled for, and proud of them all.
Using the new Government benchmark by which all schools are measured from 2016, our early indications suggest that, on average, all students in all subjects at Calthorpe Park made a third of a grade more progress than that expected nationally. This shows that, irrespective of their starting points, all students at CPS make excellent progress.
In terms of progress from their starting point with us, 42 students have made at least one grade more progress than national expectation. Of these, 9 students have made an impressive 1.5 or more grades of additional progress. Once progress measures have been confirmed by the DfE, we will publish names of students who have made the greatest progress.
In terms of the sheer volume of A* and A grades, there were some outstanding performances with 48 students achieving 8 or more A* or A grades (23% of the cohort) and 72 students (34% of the cohort) achieving 5 or more A* or A grades.
The following students achieved 6 or more A* grades:
A* | A | |
Harry Dewing | 11 | 2 |
Zara Small | 11 | 0 |
Matthew Cheung | 10 | 3 |
Liz Bates | 9 | 4 |
Jemima James | 9 | 3 |
Ben Short | 9 | 2 |
Nic Mitchell | 8 | 4 |
Jemima Wescourt | 8 | 3 |
Grace Kinnell | 7 | 5 |
Alex Wilson | 7 | 4 |
Georgie Barrow | 6 | 6 |
Bethan Grimshaw | 6 | 6 |
Tyrone Jones | 6 | 6 |
Edward MacIntyre | 6 | 6 |

Again this year, our excellent news is not restricted to Year 11. Reflecting the diverse opportunities available to our students as well as our high expectations and aspirations, we also congratulate those in Years 9 and 10 who took some GCSE exams this summer.
In GCSE Statistics, 78% of Year 10 students achieved a C grade or above, 40 of these gaining an A* or A grade.
Year 9 students were entered for GCSE Religious Education; 81% achieved a C grade or higher with a very impressive 33% achieving A* or A.
This is a fantastic set of results that reflect the unstinting dedication of our excellent staff, the support of our parents and the hard work, positivity and growth mindset of our students; we are delighted and thank you all.
Finally, we wish all our students who leave us this year every success for the future and we look forward to watching your continued progress and success. It has been a pleasure to work with you over the past five years and we will miss you all, each and every one of you!
