PSHE News - October 2023

PSHE stands for: Personal, Social, Health and Economic education. Students in Years 7-9 have a weekly lesson where we explore a variety of topics that encompass our three key themes: health and wellbeing, living in the wider world, and relationships.

So, what have we been up to this half-term?

In Year 7, we have explored the transition to secondary school, how to be resilient, what we can do to stay safe in the wider community and first aid. Some of this work may continue into next half-term if necessary. The next topic Year 7 will explore is rights, respect and British values.

In Years 8 and 9 we’ve explored drugs and alcohol with a focus on health effects and risks. There have been some fantastic questions and discussions throughout the various classes. With the use of statistics to spark our conversation, we then built towards discussions about types of drugs, risks and influences and making healthy choices.

Students in both year groups added to their work to demonstrate what they learnt over the course of this half-term.

The next topic for Year 8 is finance. Year 9 will work on gangs and serious and organised crime, followed by community and careers with an emphasis on rights.

Year 10 and 11 students will take part in a series of internal events for their PSHE provision this year. More details to follow after half-term.

We wish our students a safe, happy and restful half-term.
