Y9 Health & Respect Day - May 2016

We began the morning with an assembly regarding the nature of the day and how the key focus of the events was for our own wellbeing and our ability to make the right choices in life.  Shortly afterwards, we separated into groups and began the activities. The events consisted of a wide range of talks given from local organisations and staff members and included such topics as; smoking, drugs, deaf awareness, prison life and sexual education - to name but a few.

A representative from the charity Brake spoke to us about the seriousness of road safety and the dangers of not learning to drive correctly, Miss Wayman informed us of breathing techniques to aid us in coping with stress. Teaching us alternatives to unhealthy foods and how to make delicious banana muffins was Miss Baggott and we were also taught vital first aid skills by a lady from St Johns Ambulance. A further honourable mention was the deaf awareness lesson that remained a favourite for many.

We ended the day with an assembly that summarised the highlights of the day and the  importance of what we had learnt.

To conclude, the day was an eye opening and engaging experience for the year group and we appreciate the advice given by local organisations and the teachers taking part!
