Cheerleading - June 2024

Eclipse

Lillie-Mae (Y11), Lola (Y9) and Isla (Y8) are part of Eclipse Cheerleading Team, Discovery, based in Farnborough. Throughout this year’s season, they have competed in six competitions thus far, including regionals, national and international. Their first competition of the season was in Guildford where they came division champions and won a bid to compete in the national ‘Battle of the Champions’ in Nottingham in June. Their second and third competitions were in Crawley and Birmingham, placing 1st at both. Then came their international competition, Summit, in Florida, USA. The girls trained and competed in 36 degree heat. They were up against 52 world teams. The first round of the competition saw them place 16th and they made it through to the finals. Finals day arrived, the girls undoubtedly nervous, however, with determination, hard work and team camaraderie, they absolutely smashed it and came 9th in the world!

Their 5th competition took place in Birmingham which saw them place 2nd, with 0.06 points away from coming 1st. Next, saw them compete at ‘Battle of Champions’ competition last weekend. This competition is national competition for all teams that have placed 1st in their regional competitions. Not only did they place 1st in their division, but they became Royal Champions, placing them 1st in the overall division and had the highest score of the whole competition. They also won a bid to compete in Summit, Florida next year.

These athletes are truly phenomenal. They have an incredible work ethic, 100% commitment, and train five days a week, including school holidays. They are incredibly passionate, determined, and resilient. Team sports are all about developing life skills and future leaders, and these girls have plenty of them, as do their teammates. They only have one more competition left this season, which takes place in Bournemouth. We wish them best of luck.

Well done girls!
