Young Musician Competition - January 2016
Talented youngsters showcased their skills at the Fleet Rotary Young Musician Competition on Saturday (16/1/16). Ten musicians and vocalists aged 14 to 16 from Fleet's Calthorpe Park and Court Moor schools, St Nicholas' in Church Crookham and Salesian College in Farnborough took part in the contest.
Calthorpe Park pupil Sophie Dean won the solo instrumentalist category with three piano pieces composed by Bach, Beethoven and Chopin, while Jennifer Lawrence from St. Nicholas School won the solo vocalist award with songs by Purcell, Munroe and Willson.
The compeitition was held at St Nicholas' School in Redfields Lane and the adjudicators were Toby Coles, Beryl Holmes and Steve Petch, who judged contestants on factors including melodic accuracy, tone, temp and charater.
The event was presented by Wendy Brett, assistant director of the North East Hampshire Area Schools' Bands, a project that is also supported by Fleet Rotary.
